If you have a poorly bear, or any other type of furry friend, that needs TLC send them to our A&E department.
I receive bears from all around the world, including USA, Germany, Hong Kong, Holland, France, South Africa, Australia and of course the UK.
Most people ring me and then we discuss their bear's problems. After that they either bring them or post them to me. I give them a thorough tedical and then ring their family to let them know what can be done and the cost of the treatment. If they decide not to go ahead with the procedure I am quite happy to pack the patient up and post them back home, with only postage to be paid on return. This has only happened once, and even then the bear came back to me three months later to have his operation anyway. Sometimes I get a package containing a poorly bear without a phone call in advance, as long as the sender includes a contact phone number this is not a problem. The repairs are made as soon as possible then the bear is posted home, or collected.

The little bear above came to me with his head in lots of tiny pieces after being attacked by a dog. The lady who owned him was very worried as she did not have a photo of him so I could see what he used to look like. I identified him from the shape of his body and sent her an email with a picture of the type of bear I thought he was. This was correct and so I made a new head for him from mohair and appliqued all the torn bits on to it, so using as much of his original head as I could. When his owner saw him she was amazed. She said that he was perfect and that she couldn't believe how good he looked. I heaved a sigh of relief.

Here is another savaged bear. This one was attacked by a greyhound, named Fred, that he shared the house with. For many years Fred had never touched the bear and then one day he pounced ripping the poor bear's tummy, leg and head, After being repaired and cleaned he went home to live in a room that Fred was banned from.

This chap belongs to a lady named Penny who had taken him all over the world with her. Now, however, he wasn't even allowed on her bed as he left a trail of sawdust where ever he went. She didn't want to leave him behind, and also she was worried that he may fall to pieces altogether, so he came to our A & E department. Penny told me that when she was a little girl her Mum had repaired her bear many times but he was now beyond her skills. Often it takes me longer to remove the previous repairs without damaging the bear than it does to bring him up to scratch again, and this fellah was no exception. The left hand photo shows all the 'stuffing'(old tights, chopped up knitwear etc) that I removed from his head. His tummy and one leg was in a similar state. I removed all the inappropriate materials and refilled him with clean polyester. Patched his skin, replaced the old bits of vest on his pads and cleaned him. He has now returned to his job as traveling companion with Penny.

This chap is named Tulip. When he came his owner said that when she was a little girl "Someone" had done extensive repairs on him but she couldn't remember who or why. Now his pads needed repairing and he had lost the stuffing from his left arm. Also it looked as if there was a furry arm underneath the rough wool 'skin' that was covering him and his left leg was a different shape from the other. On inspection I found that he had a mohair arm and leg on the left side but only the rough wool on the right. His body was rough wool too, but when I carefully opened the seam under his chin I found that he also had a mohair head underneath the second skin.
I rang the lady and explained this 'Man in the iron mask' effect that Tulip had and asked if she wanted me to uncover it or to sew the seams back up. She was very surprised as she could not remember him fluffy at all. She decided that she would like to have as much of the 'real' Tulip showing as possible so the fake skin came off. The whole bear was cleaned, the left arm patched and paws replaced and some work done on his face.

Here Tulip is with his friend, Daffodil, who came for cleaning and his nose and mouth re-embroidering. His owner was in the dark as to how he had come to be in that state but she was very pleased to have him out of hiding again. He really was a mystery bear.
